Early Career Researchers on Flat Bands 2026

July 1–3 2026, JMU Würzburg, Germany

Flat band systems have emerged as as a rapidly developing research area in condensed matter physics. From strongly correlated electronic phases to topological phenomena and unconventional superconductivity, flat bands provide a powerful platform for exploring interaction-driven quantum states.

This workshop will focus on recent theoretical and experimental advances in flat band physics from the perspective of early-career researchers working in the field.

Topics:

  • Novel quantum phases and emergent phenomena in flat band systems
  • Kagome and other frustrated lattice systems
  • Moiré heterostructures and twisted multilayers
  • Interplay of quantum geometry, topology, and electron correlations

Key Dates

  • Registration opens: March 16 2026
  • Registration closes: May 1 2026
  • Program announcement: June 1 2026

This workshop is funded by the Cluster of Excellence Würzburg-Dresden ctd.qmat. There is no registration fee, and accommodation expenses can be reimbursed. For more details, please read the Useful Information section.
